March of the Penguins

As the title suggests, this creation was inspired by the 2005 French nature documentary film.

If you have not caught the film, it depicts the annual journey of the Antarctica emperor penguins. During autumn, penguins of breeding age (from five onwards) leave their habitat, the ocean, to walk inland to their ancestral breeding grounds. (Which very much reminds me of the salmons.)

They go through a process of courtship that results in the chick hatching. In order for the chick to survive, both parents make multiple arduous journeys between the ocean and breeding grounds over the ensuing months. Many die along the way due to exhaustion or by the predatory leopard seal, dooming their chicks at the breeding ground.

The theme of the fight against starvation recurs throughout the documentary. Such is the harsh reality of life, isn't it?

For those who survive, live on and continue the reproduction of their own endangered species, they carry forward this beautiful story as their way of life and inspiration for us human beings.
